The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has a new opportunity for a Policy Vice President – Tort Reform and Medical Malpractice in our State & Policy Affairs department.

Essential functions of the position include:

• Serves as a Subject Matter Expert on legislative and regulatory developments at all levels of government and as a resource for NAMIC staff and member company staff
• Works with AVP – Public Policy Affairs, VP – State and Policy Affairs and NAMIC legal to support state, federal, and international legislative and regulatory efforts through issue analysis and policy development in the tort reform and medical malpractice area.
• Provides public policy support for advocacy initiatives including legislative/legal/regulatory analysis and direct advocacy coverage for legislative/legal/regulatory entities as needed.
• Serves as chief liaison for Legal System Abuse and Medical Malpractice Working Groups
• Serves as additional policy support to other public policy groups on areas of subject matter expertise.
• Identifies and develop emerging issues of priority to member companies and work closely with NAMIC policy groups on issue development.
• Develops position papers, testimony, and other advocacy pieces on legislation/regulation as assigned.
• Communicates on relevant issues to NAMIC membership in an effective, readily understandable manner through oral presentations, written articles, issue briefs, NAMIC web content, or other relevant NAMIC media publications. 
• Supports NAMIC’s legal policy experts to promote and increase NAMIC’s exposure and profile at meetings of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, National Conference of Insurance Legislators, National Conference of State Legislators, ATRA, ALEC, and other organizations as identified.  
• Act as tort reform liaison with various groups as assigned
• Builds and maintains positive work relationships with management, staff members, and external contacts.
• Arrives to work on time and maintains a positive attendance record.
• Performs any other duties and projects as assigned.

 Qualifications include:

• Law degree from an ABA-accredited school and an active law license in at least one state.
• Experience in issue management required.
• Minimum 2 years of legal experience in the property/casualty insurance industry.
• Familiarity with NCOIL, NAIC, NCSL and other organizations affecting state insurance laws and regulations a plus.
• Experience in managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Legislative research and analysis abilities.
• Strong legal research and writing capabilities.
• Ability to travel as needed, up to 25% of the time.
• Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and must possess an acceptable MVR.
