
Policy Vice President - Economics & Insurance Markets
The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has a new opportunity for a Policy Vice President in our State & Policy Affairs department. This position will contribute to the execution of NAMIC’s strategies in pursuit of objectives related to regulation of the insurance marketplace, analysis of legislative and regulatory policies at the state and federal level, advocate at relevant organizations and agencies, and effectively advocate members’ interests through written communication and oral testimony. NAMIC has offices in Washington, DC and Indianapolis. This position will report to the Indianapolis offices on a hybrid schedule.
Essential functions of the position include:
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert and thought leader on legislative and regulatory developments at all levels of government.
- Serves as an integral part of the NAMIC Public Policy Team to ensure comprehensive issue coverage in conjunction with all NAMIC advocates.
- Manages diverse issue portfolios including, but not limited to, SME and thought leadership on commercial trends in insurance consumption, insurance markets, economic footprints and impacts of property/casualty insurance.
- Serves as a liaison/teammate to the NAMIC advocacy team to create appropriate member collateral on topics of expertise as well as leveraging advocacy strategies to address regulatory overreach.
- Leverages expertise in economics to participate and augment NAMIC objectives for member data centers and benchmarking.
- Establishes and maintains positive contacts with insurance policymakers and thought leaders to advocate NAMIC’s strategic regulatory objectives.
- Provides direct advocacy coverage for legislative/regulatory entities as needed.
- Identifies and develops emerging issues of priority to member companies and contributes to/leads NAMIC policy groups on issue development.
- Develops position papers, testimony, issue briefs, and other advocacy communications on legislation/regulation.
- Communicates effectively on issues through oral presentations, written articles, web content, or other relevant media.
- Operates as a NAMIC public speaker on areas of expertise
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working on substantive public policy issues pertaining to the insurance industry either within a state or federal legislature or agency, trade association, or company.
- Familiarity with the property/casualty insurance industry required.
- Experience in issue management pertaining to economics required.
- Prior experience in advocacy before government organizations preferred.
- Prior demonstrated research in economics; insurance related research preferred.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; master’s in business administration, master’s in applied economics preferred.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Flexibility to travel on an “as needed” basis, up to about 25 percent of the time.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable MVR.
Qualifications include:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working on substantive public policy issues pertaining to the insurance industry either within a state or federal legislature or agency, trade association, or company.
- Familiarity with the property/casualty insurance industry required.
